Description
Low Temperature Tough PC Pellets are modified from neat PC via siloxane copolymerization or addition of core-shell impact modifiers. They mainly solve the pain points of ordinary PC, which becomes brittle and prone to stress cracking under low-temperature conditions. They fall into two major categories: transparent/semi-transparent siloxane copolymer grades (high-end, e.g. SABIC EXL series) and opaque blended toughened grades (cost-effective type). Generally, opaque blended toughened grades feature lower prices and better cost-performance.
The impact strength of ordinary PC pellets drops sharply below -20°C. By contrast, Low Temperature Tough PC Pellets maintain high toughness at -30°C ~ -40°C, which well meets the requirements for low-temperature manufacturing and low-temperature service environments.
It should be noted that although Low Temperature Tough PC Pellets deliver better stress-cracking resistance than ordinary PC pellets, they usually exhibit slightly lower rigidity and hardness compared with neat PC pellets.
