Description
Food Grade PC Pellets are polycarbonate resins that comply with food contact regulations. The difference from standard PC lies not in mechanical properties but in safety control. The raw material must have strictly controlled levels of residual monomers, catalysts and other harmful impurities, and only additives permitted by regulations are allowed, to ensure that no harmful migration occurs when the material is in direct contact with food.
Food-grade PC retains the excellent overall performance of PC. Its light transmittance is close to glass, while its impact strength is about 250 times that of glass of the same thickness, making it tough and hard to break. It maintains stable performance from -40°C to 120–130°C, so it withstands hot water and high-temperature disinfection. It is also hydrolysis-resistant and dimensionally stable, stays unchanged and odor-free during long-term contact with drinking water, and offers good injection and blow molding processability with easy mold release, available in both transparent and colored options.
Food Grade PC Pellets are mainly used in products that come into direct contact with food or drinking water. They are commonly used for drinking containers such as water cups, water bottles and drinking cups, as well as food containers, storage boxes, fresh-keeping boxes and microwave-safe tableware. They are also used for transparent parts in small appliances, such as water dispensers, water purifier reservoirs, juicer cups and soymilk maker cups. In blow molding, they are used for hollow containers such as 5-gallon water barrels and large drinking water bottles. In addition, they are used in medical devices and food processing accessories.
Common grades include Makrolon 2456, 2856 and 3208 from Covestro; PK2870-111 from the SABIC LEXAN series; and FC3105 and FC3155 from Wanhua's CLARNATE series.
